If you’re using Mailchimp to send marketing emails, authenticating your domain is more important than ever. Email providers like Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft have introduced stricter requirements to combat spam and protect their users’ inboxes.
If your domain isn’t authenticated, your emails are at risk of being flagged as suspicious, which can lead to poor inbox placement, automatic spam filtering, or even complete delivery failure. Don’t leave your deliverability to chance.
Why Authentication Matters
Starting in 2023 and 2024, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and Outlook announced that large senders must authenticate their sending domains using DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM) and Sender Policy Framework (SPF). Without it, you could face serious deliverability issues.
Confirm If Your Sending Domain Is Authenticated
Step 1: Log into Mailchimp.

Step 2: Click your profile icon, then select Account & Billing.

Step 3: Click on Domains
Step 4: Under “Verified Domains,” look for your custom domain (e.g., yourcompany.com).

If it says:
✅ Authenticated: You’re good to go.
⚠️ Not Authenticated: You’ll need to authenticate it to meet new sender requirements.

It walks you through everything you need to do inside both Mailchimp and your domain provider—so your emails stay out of the spam folder and land where they belong: the inbox.
What Happens if You Don’t Authenticate?
Later this year, Mailchimp will begin rewriting unauthenticated sender addresses using its own subdomain (like yourname@yourdomain.com becomes yourname=yourdomain.com@send.mailchimpapp.com). While your reply-to address stays the same, this can hurt your brand consistency and trust.
Bottom Line
Don’t wait. If you’re a large sender, domain authentication is now essential, not optional. It ensures your campaigns land in the inbox, not the junk folder.
