To conduct an A/B test in Mailchimp, follow these steps
- Create and Name Your Test: Click the ‘Create’ icon, select ‘Email’, and then choose ‘A/B test’. Name your email and click ‘Begin’.
- Choose Recipients: Select your audience or a specific segment to send your test to. You can configure a new segment or choose a saved one, then proceed to the next step.
- Select Variables to Test: Decide which variable to test – subject line, ‘From’ name, content, or send time. You can test one variable with up to three variations. Adjust the percentage of recipients for each test combination using the slider (at least 10% is required). Choose the criteria for determining a winner (e.g., open rate, click rate, total revenue) and the duration of the test.
- Setup Step: Input details like email subject, from email address, and from name. Settings for send time variations are also configured here. Ensure tracking options like ‘Track opens’ and ‘Track clicks’ are enabled, as they’re crucial for determining the winner.
- Add Content: If you’re testing content, add and design content for each variation. For other variables like subject line, choose your template and finalize the design of your email.
- Confirm and Send: Review your A/B test combinations and make any necessary adjustments. Once satisfied, send your test immediately or schedule it for later. Remember, interaction data might take time to accumulate.
- Manual Winner Selection (Optional): If you’ve opted for manual selection, you can view the report after the test is sent and choose the winner based on the data. Navigate to ‘Analytics’, then ‘Reports’, and select the relevant A/B test to review the results and choose the winner.
- Convert to Manual Selection (Optional): After sending your test, you can switch to manual selection. In ‘Analytics’ under ‘Reports’, find your A/B test, click ‘Convert to manual selection’, type ‘CONVERT’, and then select the winning combination to send to the remaining recipients.
Remember, the effectiveness of an A/B test relies on clear objectives, a well-defined audience, and careful analysis of the results. This process helps refine your marketing strategy for better engagement and results.
